The Langham, Boston receives prestigious recognition for environmental efforts
BOSTON- October 1, 2009 – The Langham, Boston has achieved the celebrated Green Globe Benchmarked Bronze status under the Green Globe Earthcheck Benchmarking program, managed by EC3 Global. The global program recognizes The Langham, Boston’s commitment to operating at the world’s highest environmental standard.
In achieving Benchmarked Bronze status, The Langham, Boston is committed to benchmarking its energy and water consumption, total waste production and community commitment; along with implementing an integrated environmental and social policy.
The Langham, Boston as well as Langham Hotels International place a great emphasis on green initiatives. There is a Green Team at each property around the globe to ensure hotels on a local level are taking the necessary steps to be corporate and socially responsible. The Langham, Boston has been implementing best practices that are efficient as well as a cost savings, ensuring the hotel is on the path to securing a sustainable future for the environment.
The Langham, Boston’s Green Team Champion, Bob Stone, said, “We encourage colleagues on all levels to participate in our green efforts. We provide daily tips to our staff to use at both at home and at work, and keep them involved with our accomplishments.”
Recently, the hotel recycled electronic equipment, such as unused computers, that were manufactured and donated to inner-city youth programs. Printer cartridges are also always returned to the vendor for recycling.
In addition to recycling all cardboard, paper, plastic, glass throughout the hotel, recently, thousands of incandescent bulbs were replaced with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL).
In the food and beverage department, Executive Chef, Mark Sapienza, was honored for his commitment to Northeast Family Farms, which creates a food chain between the local farmer and the local chef maximizing the use of organic foods and minimizing the global carbon footprint. Sapienza also implemented a program so all waste oil from the kitchen is recycled into bio-diesel.
While The Langham, Boston is proud to have reached this Bronze status, plans are already underway to achieve the Silver status.
