BOSTON— MARCH 17, 2008 — Greater Boston’s culinary community and local dignitaries will join together to host the 16th annual LifeSavor, a celebratory fundraiser, on Thursday, March 27, at The Langham, Boston in downtown Boston. Sponsored by State Street Corporation, MAC VIVA GLAM, and The Langham, Boston - this year’s LifeSavor gala will include a city-wide dinner party involving over 80 local restaurants and more than 900 expected guests to support Community Servings, Greater Boston’s home delivered meals program for the critically ill.  

Community Servings is a not-for-profit organization that provides free, home-delivered meals to individuals and families ill with an acute, life-threatening illness such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, Lupus, Lou Gehrig’s disease, MS, and other illnesses. Currently serving 700 clients, dependents, and caregivers throughout eastern Massachusetts, Community Servings helps clients maintain their health and dignity, provides nutritionally and culturally appropriate meals, preserves the integrity of their family, and sends the message that someone cares.

“The partnership and support we receive from Boston area restaurants, sponsors, and volunteers has allowed LifeSavor to grow more remarkable with each passing year,” said David B. Waters, Executive Director. “Community Servings recently opened a new state-of-the-art kitchen facility in Jamaica Plain which will allow us to double the number of meals we serve each day, delivering meals to homebound clients in new communities, such as our newly added 16th community of Lawrence, making the success of this annual fundraiser critical to support the growing needs of our neighbors.”

The evening kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception, including fabulous food by The Langham, Boston’s executive chef, Mark Sapienza, a Cold River Vodka martini bar, and the famed silent auction at the Langham hotel. Attendees will bid on one-of-a kind items including luxury goods and services, glamorous getaways, epicurean experiences and more. Auction items that are sure to turn heads include a red carpet stay on Nantucket during film festival weekend with private jet service, an strand of exquisite Tahitian pearls from Iridesse, TV Diner Restaurant Critic for a Day, lunch with Mayor Menino, an exotic getaway to the Mykonos, and for the first time - “Create Your Own LifeSavor” - dinners for ten at select restaurants for an evening of culinary adventure.

Following the cocktail reception, parties of ten will be chauffeured by Old Town Trolley Tours to their respective restaurants. Restaurants such as blu, Clio, Rialto, Lumiere, No. 9 Park, L’Espalier, Sorellina, UpStairs on the Square, Radius, and Top of the Hub will donate a multi-course meal paired with wines highlighting the chef’s skills and creativity. Master Chef, Executive Chef, and Chef de Cuisine level tables are available for contributions of $15,000, $10,000, and $5,000 respectively. Individual dinner tickets (includes reception) are also available for donations of $300, with cocktail reception only tickets available at $200. The fun will continue at a festive after-party, where the The Langham, Boston will open up their award-winning Julien Bar, offering guests miniature desserts from their famed Chocolate Bar.

Thanks to the generosity of the Boston restaurant and business communities, 95 cents of every dollar raised will go toward providing thousands of live-giving meals to Community Servings’ clients.
